I spent the morning at the Virginia General Assembly doing what I’m always telling my friends who are disgusted with things, but who won’t do anything constructive about them other than gripe — letting my state delegate and senator know how I felt about certain issues and asking for their support.
It was a wonderful experience — one I ‘ve made it a habit of doing for many years.
And the weather was great — nearly 60 degrees in the old city. After three weeks of wondering where Al Gore has been and suffering through sub-freezing weather, this was a real treat in mid-January.
When I got home, a little girl from the neighborhood, who was walking with her father and little brother, waved at me.
As I was getting my stuff out of the trunk, she came over and gave me a chocloate candy wrapped up to look like a gold coin — one like the bank’s give away.
But she gave me hers.
What a nice thing to do. A real blessing, and something to meditate about (which I have).
And — mirablile dictu – larger thoughts overtook me that evening.
They were not specific. They were encouragements.
What I need to do now is figure out how to transfer those uplifting meditations to the mornings when I tend to feel rather unenthused about things.
I’m listening.
